5 Things to Look for in a Travel Insurance Policy
As you put the final touches on the trip of a lifetime you’ve probably got a lot going through your mind as you decide what to pack and what you can live without on your volunteer trip. The most important things you’ll be taking with you are your passport, money, travel documents, and of course, your travel insurance.
Here are five things to look for as you compare travel insurance plans:
1. Limits to trip duration.
Double check each policy to see how many consecutive travel days you’ll be covered for. Depending on your policy, if you go over that limit you risk not having coverage for those extra days–or worse, invalidating your policy.
2. Limits on claims.
Be sure you know exactly how much coverage you have and what it’s for. The last thing you want is to be stuck with a medical bill or loss of personal items only to find out that you don’t have the appropriate coverage for reimbursement.
3. Getting you home.
Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains are gloomy to thinkĀ about but in the event their needed they can save a life or save a loved one a lot of time and money.
4. Pre-existing conditions.
Check your policy options and find out what the exclusions are for pre-existing conditions. If you’re treated for an illness or injury on a regular basis you’ll want to take that into special consideration before purchasing a policy.
5. Trip delay.
Coverage for things like trip delay seem excessive, that is until you need it. Sleeping in an airport is not nearly as fun as it sounds, believe me! If your flight is delayed, trip delay coverage can reimburse you for unexpected out of pocket expenses incurred due to the delay. It can also save you from a crick in your neck from sleeping on the floor at the airport.
